The international conference of the “2nd East Asian Partners Dialogue on Latin American Studies”, co-hosted by the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, School of International Studies of Sun Yat-sen University, and University of Macau was held at Guangdong on November16th and 17th. The conference aimed at “discussing the development in East Asia and Latin America, strengthening the overall cooperation of institutions between the two regions. Nearly 60 representatives from Japan, South Korea, Russia, Brazil, Argentina and other countries attended the meeting.
Participants believe that the current international political and economic situation is complex and volatile. The two regions are facing common challenges in promoting economic and social development, readjusting economic structures, improving international competitiveness, strengthening technological innovation, protecting the environment, and tackling climate change, and are enjoying more overlapping interests. The academic communities and think tanks on public policy in East Asia and Latin America should shoulder their responsibilities to establish a mechanism of academic dialogue between East Asia and Latin America, and launch the process at an early time to meet the needs of the governments, industries and societies of the two regions. They should play the role of building up consensus to deepen East Asia -- Latin America cooperation.
