ILAS held a seminar on “Development and Impact of Latin American Populism” on October 30th, 2008. The meeting was attended by scholars from Peking University, Xinhua News Agency and ILAS. It highlighted the definition of populism; origin and development of Latin American populism; interrelations and differences between the traditional and current populism in Latin America; appraisal and prospect of populism; characteristics of Latin American populism and reasons for its long standing.
