The Sixth Congress of the Chinese Association of Latin American Studies
On May 9 to 12, 2007, the Sixth Congress of the Chinese Association of Latin American Studies (CALAS) was held in Anshan, Liaoning Province, which was titled “Social Harmony: Lessons of Latin America”. The participants were from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of China, the International Ministry of the CPC Central Committee, People Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Peking University, Nankai University, Fudan University, and the Institute of Latin American Studies. They focused attention on analyzing the influence of Latin America’s social development model on its social development, summarizing the impact of economic reform on social development and the crisis control measures, and reviewing current major issues of the region.
